Sergeant First Class Ronald E. Logue was born to be an Army soldier and protect his country. While he was a student at Hastings College the Vietnam conflict was happening many miles away from Nebraska. Because he had a low number in Adams County for the drafting lottery, he enlisted in the 295th U.S. Army Reserve Unit in May 1970. He wanted to finish his journalism and communications bachelor’s degree and get married in June. His active-duty training was at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He played the alto saxophone in the 11th Battalion Band.
His last assignment was in Lincoln with the 162nd Medical Battalion from May 29th, 1984 till September 30th, 1994. He attended many summer training camps and usually was on lead convoys to prepare for the rest of his unit. He traveled to Wisconsin, California, Colorado and Missouri for training. He earned many awards and medals, several more than once, including Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Army reserve Component Achievement Medal 4th Award, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development 3rd Award, Army Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal 1st Award.
Ron received his master’s degree in business administration from UNK in May 1993. He passed away September 30th, 1994 at age 46 from cancer. He is survived by his wife Beverly, 3 sons; Ryan (Sandy), Andrew (Jamie), and Jason and 7 grandchildren; Riley, Braeden, Alec, Madeline, Gavin, Andrew Jr, and Mackenzie. Grandson Alec is a military police officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. Ron would be so proud!
Ron lived and died the motto of the 162nd Medical Battalion U.S. Army Reserve Unit “Let Them Never Be Without”.
