Donald Stevenson was born in Albion, NE on January 1st 1972 to Greg Stevenson and Susan Journey. His family moved to Grand Island when he was in Elementary School. Don graduated from Northwest High School in Grand Island. He began speaking to the Army recruiter at the age of 16 years old. Several days after his 17th birthday he went down to the recruiter’s office with his mother’s signed consent. Don elected for the Army split option, therefore he began attending basic training between his junior and senior years of high school. He attended Basic Training in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
After Graduating from high school, he left for Fort Sam Houston Texas for Combat Medic training. Shortly after returning to Grand Island, he decided to join the Active Army as a Pharmacy Technician. He returned to Fort Sam Houston TX to begin training.
Don had many assignments during his years in the Army. Starting with his first active-duty assignment at a hospital at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Next, he was sent on his first overseas assignment with the 67th Combat Support Hospital in Wurzburg Germany. From there he was deployed to Taszar Hungary in support of the Bosnia operation, and Camp Bondsteel Kosovo. While deployed to Kosovo spent a couple of weeks supporting a Jordanian Hospital working alongside of Jordanian soldiers that were located at Mazar-i-Sharif Afghanistan. Don’s next assignment was with the 1st Medical Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas where he was deployed to Camp Doha Kuwait. Next assignment while stationed at Fort Sam Houston is where he completed his prerequisites to apply for the Interservice Physician Assistance program. He spent his second year in Fort Knox Kentucky, where he was given more hands-on experience than he could have ever imagined. Don was then assigned to the 45th Sustainment Brigade located at Schofield Barracks Hawaii where Don served as a division surgeon. Next was a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan, where he was the only Army medical officer for the first several months, once established Navy physicians rotated in to support the mission. Don’s last assignment was at Fort Sam Houston, TX as the Officer in Charge where he trained combat medics.
While at Fort Hood Don was inducted into the top enlisted military organization the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. He worked as a cadre at the Academy of Health Science Center as an instructor for pharmacy technicians, nurses as well as a few other courses. He was an active member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and was a member of the Academy of Health Science Center Color Guard and marched in many high-profile events. Donald held an enlisted rank of E-7, Sergeant First Class before PA School and retired with a commissioned officer rank of O-3, Captain.
While at Fort Sill, Don was attending Creighton University and earned his associates degree. He then earned his bachelor’s degree on year 1 of training. And completed his second year with his Master of Physician Assistant Studies.
Donald is a retired disabled veteran with 22 years of active-duty service. He now resides in Fair Oaks Ranch, TX with his 2 daughters, Alyssa and Hailey, and Alyssa’s boyfriend Michael. Donald’s first 13 years of retirement he was working as a Physician’s Assistant with Consultants of Pain Medicine in San Antonio and last year he transitioned into wellness and is currently working with Korb Health Group.
