Dennis W. Day was born on March 1, 1953, to Bill and Lavonne (Brundage) Day. While he lived in Loup City, NE he attended school, graduating in May 1971. After graduating he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego for bootcamp and after graduating bootcamp, went onto Vallejo CA for schooling on Class A electronics, Class B, Class C Delta ANSPG51D tartar systems for another 2 years. In 1974, he went to Norfolk, VA to the newly constructed USS California CNG-36 where he proudly served as a FTM2. He was discharged in 1977. During his time of service, he was awarded the following medals: National Defense Service (Vietnam War), Battle Efficiency Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
In 1973 he was united in marriage to Rhonda Fredrick. After leaving the Navy in 1977 they moved back to Grand Island, Ne to raise their 4 children (Christopher, Heather, Mandee, and Jessica). He was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration for 32 years and 6 months and he retired on December 31, 2013.
